3 Impactful Organizations to Support This Giving Tuesday
Each year on Giving Tuesday we love to highlight a few of our co-laborers in the charitable space who are doing incredible work serving others. These organizations are worthy of your support and are led by selfless, generous, and trustworthy people I hold to be friends. Please carefully consider giving of your time, talents, and resources to help increase the impact of these remarkable causes. And if you happen to be at IBS25, come visit us all on what we affectionately call “charity row” in the hallway outside Central Hall!
HomeAid
HomeAid has the unique ability through construction, community engagement and education to maximize relationships between the building industry and local service providers in order to create a future where individuals are able to overcome homelessness and build a new life. We see that as “the power of the Triangle.” The Triangle is one of the most simple shapes yet is exudes strength, stability and can bear the weight cast upon it from a variety of angles. The Triangle is often found in various elements of construction, including building support and trusses.
Equally as strong, are the three sides of HomeAid’s Triangle, (construction, community engagement and education) as they are each critical components to fulfilling our mission and clearly demonstrate how HomeAid exists to serve those who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Through the generosity of our partners, HomeAid has built more than 1,300 construction projects valued at more than $350 million, of which nearly 40 percent was donated in-kind by the building industry providing more than 14,500 beds per night nationwide, with each bed serving an average of three people per year.
To get involved with HomeAid, we encourage you to do 3 things:
1. Educate and Advocate
Talk to your friends, family, and local leaders about homelessness and advocate for policies that increase access to housing and support services. A place to start is here at Homelessness Awareness Month • HomeAid®
2. Support Construction Projects
Help us create safe, stable housing. Your support directly contributes to building futures for those in need.
3. Engage in Your Community
Volunteer with your local HomeAid affiliate or other organizations addressing homelessness. Together, we can amplify our impact. HomeAid has 19 Affiliates located across the country, each working to help end homelessness in their community and we are about to launch a new affiliate in North Texas. Each of them have opportunities for engagement and local impact. Affiliates — HomeAid® | Building A Future Without Homelessness
Operation Finally Home
At Operation Finally Home, we build hope by providing homes and home modifications to America’s Veterans, First Responders and their families. We bring together corporate sponsors, builder associations, builders, remodelers, developers, individual contributors and volunteers to help these deserving heroes and their families by addressing one of their most pressing needs – a safe place to call home.
Given the nature of the current military campaigns, today’s severely injured are experiencing severe burns and/or the loss of limbs as well as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Statistics show over 50,000 troops have been wounded and over 435,000 servicemen and women are suffering from PTSD and TBI sustained from service in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and Operation New Dawn (OND).
Here’s how you can help us:
Supporting Operation Finally Home is an efficient and wise way to give a donation that can go directly into a home for a wounded veteran or help with other expenses. Please contact us if you are interested in supporting Operation Finally Home.
Who we need:
- Builders/ Remodelers / Suppliers
We need builders across the nation to utilize their resources (contractors, suppliers, etc.) to provide mortgage-free homes for our wounded, ill and injured veterans, first responders, and their families.
2. Developers
Operation Finally Home needs developers across the nation to donate lots or sell them to us at cost so we can build homes.
3. Corporate Partners
Corporate partner support is crucial to both individual home builds and our organization’s overall efforts.
4. Heroes
Operation Finally Home exists to provide custom-built, mortgage-free homes to wounded, ill and injured veterans and first responders, the widows of the fallen and their families. If you know a veteran or widow, please ask them to visit our Veterans page for more information.
